About A.J.

A.J. Tendick and his 3 best friends run Bike Dog Brewing Company, with taprooms on Broadway and in West Sacramento. Here, A.J. shares his 'Perfect Sacramento Day for the Beer Lover' with Visit Sacramento. As you'd expect, it involves quite a bit of biking around America's Farm to Fork Capital.

MORNING AT THE PARK

"First, stop at one of the great local dog parks, like Sutters Landing in Downtown or Truitt Bark Park in Midtown."

COFFEE AT CHOCOLATE FISH

"Then, charge up for the day with a short bike ride over to Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters in East Sac for some coffee that's roasted on site."

BIKE, BIKE, BIKE

"From there, it's a short ride through Sac State to the American River Parkway. You have a fun day of eating and drinking on tap, so just cruise over to William Pond Park and stop at the bike bridge that crosses the American River for some great views."

LUNCH AT EMPRESS

"If it's hot, I'd escape to Empress Tavern. It's always a tough choice there between the Hot Fried Chicken or their Signature Burger. Empress Tavern is built into the lower floor of the Crest Theatre, so just being there feels like a cool escape from the world, even though you're in the middle of Downtown. Their classy cocktails and well thought out out beer list are a huge bonus."

BEER TIME

"Then, swing by the brewery to grab some cans of beer to share with the gang at New Glory Brewing off of Power Inn Road. New Glory always has a constantly rotating new beer release schedule, so it's always fun to see what they've been dreaming up."

DINNER & HOP BOMBS AT URBAN ROOTS

"Then, it's got to be dinner and beers at Urban Roots Brewing and Smokehouse in Richmond Grove, which is run by Rob Archie and Peter Hoey.

Peter Hoey has perhaps the deepest and widest breadth of brewing knowledge, so it's always a treat to dive into either his impeccable traditional beers or modern hop bombs.

And Urban Roots has probably the biggest smoker on the west coast, so you can expect an amazing assortment of smoked treats."

DESSERT

"Since I've been pedaling most of the day, I've earned some dessert so I'd head back north to the Ice Blocks development on R Street to visit Milk Money for a donut and ice cream sandwich from Michelin Star rated pastry chef Edward Martinez. You never knew that you needed donuts with this level of sophistication until you've been to Milk Money, and then all other donuts are just never the same."
