The Ultimate 24-Hours in Sacramento for the Coffee Lover
Visit Sacramento spoke with Ilah Rose Cookston-Minton of The Mill in Midtown Sacramento to learn about her recommended itinerary for The Ultimate 24-Hours in Sacramento for the Coffee Lover in California’s Farm to Fork Capital.
Coffee and Breakfast at The Mill
"Since we’ve opened, my husband Nick and I always begin our day together at The Mill. Nick will always have an espresso, usually the Bouquet Blend with a side of our sparkling water.
My drink of choice varies. Lately, I've been drinking our Matcha Latte with soy milk or our cappuccino with Clover Dairy and our latest single origin espresso. I'd also recommend our Jam Waffle, which is our made-to-order yeasted waffle topped with organic jam made here at the cafe. Then, head out the back door to enjoy everything on our garden patio!"
Brunch Meets Lunch at Nopalito’s Southwestern Cafe
Upon walking into Nopalito’s, you're welcomed by a bright, clean, Santa Fe inspired space. Co-Owner Rose Hanke’s sweet and welcoming service always warms our hearts, rejuvenates our spirits every time approach the counter to order.
Nopalito’s menu has something for everyone, with many delicious options for vegetarians. We usually order their Vegetarian Tostada with a generous portion of their delicious Nopales Salsa Verde. If you are an early riser catch their breakfast menu, we’d recommend the Nopales Scrambled Eggs Plate!"
Satisfy Your Midday Hunger at Sun and Soil Juice Company
"Then, for a mid-afternoon snack to patch the gap before dinner we walk over for some pure organic love from Sun and Soil Juice Company! Co-Owners Tatiana and Molly create the best organic cold press juice in town. We usually order their Sweet Green Juice with a Gingy Shot.
Their plant filled space always brightens our afternoons, and we always find ourselves grabbing a raw snack from their cold case - usually their Organic Falafel."
Afternoon Coffee at WAL Public Market
"In the early afternoon we'd head over to Camellia Coffee Roasters at WAL Public Market, an awesome new coffee company ran by two great guys, Rob and Ryan. Camellia Coffee is on R Street, nestled inside of an awesome renovated brick building filled with artist lofts, restaurants and boutiques.
Upon entering you will be welcomed by large walk-up style counter, and a quaint indoor seating area with a pink tile bench, and charming wooden chairs. I'd recommend ordering their Ethereal Espresso Blend in a cappuccino or alone as an espresso. If your looking to treat yourself further you won’t want to miss their new Iced Horchata Latte!"
Pre-Dinner Dessert at Conscious Creamery
"Before dinner, I'd seek out Conscious Creamery. It's an incredible family owned company creating the best gelato around, period. Co-Owners Andrea & Kevin make their gelato by hand in small batches, highlighting exceptional ingredients and impressive integrity!
I'd recommend a pint of their Mocha Almond Fudge or whatever seasonal fruit pint they are offering.
If it's a Saturday, I'd recommend stopping by their stall at the Midtown Farmers Market for a pint to take home. Or for the coffee lovers, stop by Identity Coffee or Temple Coffee for an affogato featuring Conscious Creamery gelato!"
Prepare Dinner At Your Hotel or Vacation Rental with Local Produce
"We typically cook dinner at home with herbs from our garden, vegetables from River Dog Farm and Full Belly Farm found at the Sunday Farmers Market or from our Sacramento Co-Op. But whatever we create, there is bound to be generous portions of Cobram Estate Olive Oil, a loaf of fresh bread from Takeaway Bread Co. and a cold glass of Zeal Kombucha."
Or Grab Dinner at a Sacramento Restaurant
Sacramento is known as America's Farm to Fork Capital. "The restaurants we love to visit for dinner are The Press Bistro, Mother, and Masullo Pizza. Each of these restaurants are owned by incredible families, who pour their heart and souls into the menu and atmosphere."
Either Way, Make Sure to Save Room for Dessert at The Real Pie Company
"Dessert for us can happen before dinner sometimes, and if it does you'll find us at The Real Pie Company near Oak Park on 24th & Broadway. Here, you'll find the best pie you have ever eaten - last time we were in we had a slice of their Jumble Berry Pie topped with fresh whipped cream and a slice of their Cherry Pie with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Co-Owners Kira & Fred have created a dream come true for our community, and we are completely hooked!"
